Village Council
The Village of Schoolcraft is a General Law Village with a Council/Manager form of government. The Village Council is the highest elected body and consists of a President and six Trustees. The Village President serves a two-year term, and the Village Trustees serve four-year terms.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is an advisory body to the Village Council. The Planning Commission has both advisory and administrative responsibilities related to planning and zoning matters. Planning Commissioners are appointed for three-year terms.

Downtown Development Authority (DDA)
The DDA was established in 2004, and is comprised of a nine-member board appointed for four-year terms. Their purpose is to provide a favorable environment for downtown businesses and residents, to assist and facilitate improvements along the US 131 corridor, to provide a means to implement economic revitalization in the central business district, and to build on the success and momentum created by these projects through maintenance, management, and leadership.

Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals shall have the power to authorize a specific variance from site
development requirements such as lot area and width regulations, building height and bulk regulations, yard width and depth regulations, and off-street parking and loading space requirements.
The Zoning Board of Appeals shall hear and decide such matters as described in the Village's Zoning Ordinance. The Board of Appeals shall have the power to interpret the zoning map, to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged that an error was made by the Zoning Administrator, and to approve variances from the provisions of this ordinance.
The Zoning Board of Appeals meets on an as-needed basis.
